Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program categories

  1. Human capital: Those who have an Express Entry profile and have work experience, language skills as per Ontario PNP Program requirements or possess a graduate degree can apply under Human capital stream
  2. Employer job offer: Those who have a permanent job offer from an Ontario employer can apply under Employer job offer category
  3. Business: Those want to start a business or looking to buy an existing business can apply under the Business stream.

Human Capital Category

This category is divided into 2 sub categories, Ontario Express entry Stream and International Graduate Stream.

OINP Express Entry Stream

This Stream of OINP (Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program) is aligned with Federal Express Entry. To be eligible for this steam, you should have an active express entry profile and receive a notification of interest from Ontario. One can get notification of interest under 3 streams :

Human Capital Priorities Stream

To be eligible under OINP Express Entry Stream Human Capital Priorities Stream, you must have an active Express Entry profile as a federal skilled worker or Canadian Experience Class candidate and have minimum CRS as decided by the director of OINP in each draw.

French Speaking Skilled Worker Stream

French Speaking Skilled Worker Stream allows OINP to nominate French-speaking Candidates who have an active Express Entry profile as a federal skilled worker or Canadian Experience Class candidate. Candidates need to Demonstrate a language proficiency level of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 or higher in French and a CLB 6 or higher in English in all four components (reading, writing, speaking, and listening).

Skilled Trades Stream

Skilled Trades Stream allows OINP to nominate candidates who are currently residing and working in designated skill trade. This stream is aligned with the Federal Express Entry stream. To be eligible, candidates need to have an active Express Entry profile under the Canadian Experience Class category.

OINP International Graduate Stream

Those candidates who have a graduate degree from an eligible Ontario university can apply under this stream. Candidates need to apply within two years of getting the degree from Onratio Univesity. There are 2 subcategories under the OINP International Graduate stream.

Masters Graduate Stream

Masters Graduate Stream of OINP International Graduate Stream provides an opportunity for international students with an Ontario master’s degree, to apply to permanently live and work in Ontario. Candidate should have completed a minimum one-year full-time postgraduate course from the eligible university of Ontario. Candidates cannot apply if they are rolled as a student while applying unless the course is a requirement to be licensed in a regulated occupation in Ontario or the candidate is working full time in Ontario.

PhD Graduate Stream

Ph.D. Graduate Stream of OINP International Graduate Stream provides an opportunity for the candidates who have completed the requirements necessary to obtain a Ph.D. degree. The degree must be from an eligible university in Ontario. To be eligible, the Candidate must have completed at least two years of Ph.D. studies while legally living and studying in Ontario.

Candidates who have received a scholarship for their Studies and have to return to their home country to fulfill the commitments of scholarship are not allowed to apply to this stream of Ontario Provincial Nominee Program. However, they can after they have fulfilled those commitments and can demonstrate an intention to live in Ontario.

Employer job offer Category

 A full time job offer from an Ontario employer is required to be eligible for this stream. This category is divided into 3 sub-categories:

Foreign Worker Stream

Foreign Worker Stream OF OINP Employer job offer Category is an immigration stream which gives an opportunity to a foreign worker who has a job offer in a skilled occupation at Skill Type 0 or Skill Level A or B of the National Occupational Classification (NOC), to apply for nomination under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program. The job offer must be for a full-time and permanent position with a minimum of 1,560 hours a year and a minimum of 30 hours of paid work per week from an Ontario employer who meets all the requirements fo OINP. Foreign workers from outside or within Canada can apply to this stream.

International Student Stream

International Student Stream of OINP Employer job offer Category is an immigration stream which gives an opportunity to International Student who have completed a degree or diploma from an eligible Canadian university and has a job offer in a skilled occupation at Skill Type 0 or Skill Level A or B of the National Occupational Classification (NOC), to apply for nomination under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program. The job offer must be for a full-time and permanent position with a minimum of 1,560 hours a year and a minimum of 30 hours of paid work per week from an Ontario employer who meets all the requirements fo OINP. International students from outside or within Canada can apply to this stream.

In-Demand Skills Stream

In-Demand Skills Stream of OINP Employer job offer Category provides an opportunity to foreign workers who have a job offer in specific in-demand occupations, such as in, trucking, agriculture, construction, or personal support work, to apply to permanently live and work in Ontario. Candidates must have at least 9 months of full-time work experience within the past 3 years in the same NOC which he/she has secured a job offer. This experience must be gained while living and working in Ontario. Eligible occupation under this stream are as follows :

  • NOC 3413 – nurse aides, orderlies, and patient service associates
  • NOC 4412 – home support workers and related occupations, excluding housekeepers
  • NOC 7441 – residential and commercial installers and servicers
  • NOC 7511 – transport truck drivers
  • NOC 7521 – heavy equipment operators (except crane)
  • NOC 7611 – construction trades helpers and laborers
  • NOC 8431 – general farmworkers
  • NOC 8432 – nursery and greenhouse workers
  • NOC 8611 – harvesting laborers
  • NOC 9462 – industrial butchers and meat cutters, poultry preparers and related workers

Business category

Entrepreneur Stream

Entrepreneur Stream of OINP Business category is started for entrepreneurs from outside of Canada interested in starting a new business or buying an existing business in Ontario. Candidate must have 24 months of experience in the last 5 years before applying to this stream. The Candidates must have at least one-third share in the business and must have an active role in the business as a business owner or a senior, manager, and possess decision making responsibilities within the business to be eligible for this stream of Ontario Provincial Nominee Program.
