Major changes in AINP Express Entry due to Covid-19

AINP officials released a major update in Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program. According to the officials, AINP keeps selecting and nominating potential candidates through AINP express entry stream. However, candidates who are living and working in Alberta province are eligible for upcoming draws.

This is a huge set back for the candidates who are looking for AINP nomination from some time, as it was one of the PNP streams which allow candidates from outside Canada to receive a nomination. These are forced changes in AINP Express Entry due to the Covid-19 pandemic.it is effective from April 29,2020. Although there is a relief for outland candidates as this is a temporary change due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Who are Eligible

After the implementation of these changes, the eligibility for AINP express entry stream stands as follows :

  • Candidates currently living and working in Alberta province will be considered for a future draw.
  • Candidates working from home due to social distancing directive of governed, are eligible if they meet all other criteria.
  • Candidates should be working in eligible occupation list for the AINP Express Entry Stream.
  • Candidates should have a valid work permit to work in their occupation.
  • The work should be a full time paid with a minimum of 30 hours/ week.
  • Alberta employer must be incorporated or registered by or under an act of the legislature of a province, territory, or the Parliament of Canada and operating as a business that has an established production capability, plant or place of business in Alberta.

Who are not Eligible

The following individuals are not eligible:

  • Individuals with a job offer for part-time, casual or seasonal employment, regardless of their current working hours.
  • Independent contractors, business owners or temporary agency workers, including individuals listed as Directors, Shareholders or Agents of the Alberta employer on the Corporate Registry System (CORES).
  • Candidates who are working virtually from outside the province are not eligible.

For current Alberta Express Entry Stream candidates, applications are put on hold for those candidates for 60 days, who matches following circumstances:

  • Candidates who were working in Alberta prior to the COVID-19 pandemic but who are currently not working full-time (part-time or unemployed).
  • Candidates working in a regulated occupation in Alberta but who cannot meet licensure/registration requirements.

Advice for nominated candidates

Those Who already got the nomination are advised to report AINP and IRCC about changes in their employment circumstances, address, email, phone number, or family status after nomination.  Information about a change in employment must be emailed to the AINP program officer who processed the application or mailed to the AINP along with an AINP file number. Use the IRCC web form to advise IRCC of any changes.

Nominees whose employment circumstance changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic will be given 60 calendar days to meet employment criteria in order to maintain their nomination. Nominees who move to another province or territory will have their nomination withdrawn.

The reason behind these changes in AINP Express Entry

These changes in AINP Express Entry due to the Covid-19 pandemic are a bit harsh for outland candidates but in reality, it will allow AINP to continue their AINP express entry stream because nominating outland candidates seems illogical due to emergency all round the world. Even after nomination, candidates are not able to submit documents due to lockdown in various regions around the world.
